AssignPrefs V1.0: Assigns Preferences
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the first public release of my new Assigns preferences program.
It belongs in your Preferences drawer, along with all your other Prefs
programs, and allows you to add, delete, or modify assigns in your system
at any time. Operation is pretty straightforward: just click on "Add"
on the Assign side to add an assign, and "Add" on the destination side
to point the new assign where it belongs. Also, dragging a disk or drawer
icon into the window will cause a new destination to be added, if you
wish.
When saved, AssignPrefs will not only save the assigns to ENVARC:, but
will also place an icon in your WBStartup drawer to enable the system to
automatically perform your assigns upon a reboot. Multiple assigns are
supported, although deferred and path assigns are not. If you need that
stuff, break down and use the Shell. :-)
The Shell template for AssignPrefs ("USE/S,PUBSCREEN/K") allows you
to load and use the default assigns and specify the public screen upon
which to open, respectively. Likewise, the PUBSCREEN tooltype also allows
you to specify any public screen you wish the program to open on.
About AssignPrefs (easier to say!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AssignPrefs is CollegeWare! As much as I hate to grovel like this, I
will soon be unable to continue writing software if my present financial
condition remains as it has. I really, really want to continue writing
great and useful software for the Amiga, and I've begun to set my sights
higher than mere small utilities. But I definitely do not have enough
time to balance an engineering curriculum, a part-time job, and
programming into any remotely realistic schedule. I'd much rather stay
home and program than work at a convenience store in Philadelphia. :)
With your support, I'll be able to continue writing great Amiga
software. I have some GREAT ideas for the future (almost all of them
AGA-related in some way), but I need you to make it happen! A small
donation (heck, if ten people send $10, I may break even with Bell of PA!)
would be very much appreciated.
Also, any bug reports should be sent to the below address.

About Amiga Resource
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a special magazine out there which many people may not be aware
of. Personally, it's my favorite magazine because it covers all the bases
that the average Amiga user needs. I've asked Denny Atkin, the editor, for
some information on it so I could pass it on to you. But trust me on this:
take the plunge! <grin>
-*-
We're a special edition of COMPUTE Magazine includes everything you find
in the newsstand edition of COMPUTE (which is mostly PC-oriented, although
there are a number of things of interest to Amiga users such as monitor
and printer reviews, as well as industry articles), and a special 32-page
all-Amiga section.
Among our regular monthly columnists are such well-known Amiga names as
Sheldon Leemon, Jim Butterfield, Mark R. Brown, Oran J. Sands, Mike
Nelson, Peggy Herrington, Steven Worley, Nick Sullivan, and Chris Zamara.
Other writers who've recently done features for the Amiga section of
COMPUTE include Mike Sinz, Dave Haynie, Mort Kevelson, David Sears, and
Denny Atkin.
Amiga Resource is only available in special editions of COMPUTE at
select newsstand outlets, including Software Etc., CompUSA, and BizMart,
as well as some Amiga dealers such as Creative Computers.
But there's a better deal--for just over the price of three issues on
the newsstand, you can get a year's subscription (12 issues) of COMPUTE
with Amiga Resource.
Just call 800-727-6937 and ask for the Amiga edition of COMPUTE. (Make
sure they confirm they have you down for the Amiga edition.) Tell them the
subscription offer you have is for $9.97/year, and if they ask for a
number from the bottom corner of the subscription card, give them the
code K9CT0.
It takes 4-6 weeks to get your first issue. If you have any problems
receiving the correct edition of the magazine, please call the the 800
number listed above and they'll straighten it out. Also, though, feel free
to contact me if they're not resolved to your satisfaction,
